3 Natural Wonders Not to Miss in Kanab, Utah!

We recently took a family trip to Utah and fell in love with all the beautiful scenery. There are countless things to see and do here that you could easily spend weeks traveling the state and not see it all. So, if you’re short on time, here are 3 easy-to-get-to sights, right in Kanab!

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

Our UTV Cruise and Surf Adventure was definitely our most exciting tour when we were in Kanab! This was an absolute thrill and all four of us were beaming from ear to ear! We took a tour with ROAM (thanks you guys!!) and were able to drive our own UTV in the beautiful sand dunes. We followed our tour guide as we zipped down the crest of the dunes, across the beautiful landscape and to a really cool slot canyon! We even went sand sledding and my husband tried sand boarding! ROAM even went the extra mile, literally, ha-ha… with our tour guide driving his UTV down to the bottom of the dune to pick us up so we wouldn’t have to climb our way back up. Score! We feel that there’s no way we could have experienced all that Coral Pink Sand Dunes has to offer, if we didn’t go on their tour. We would have missed a lot by traveling on foot and wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun!

Note: This tour includes the sand sleds and boards that you would have to otherwise rent from the park at $25 each.

Kanab Sand Caves

These caves were so cool! It does take a bit of scrambling to get to them, but it’s definitely worth it! Just make sure to wear proper hiking shoes with good grip. There is a nice and easy path to follow from the parking lot that runs about a half a mile in each direction. If you would rather not climb up the rocks to walk through the caves, just follow the trail to the end and you can get a good view from below.

The climb up did take some effort and logistics to get our family up there, but we went slowly and carefully. My husband went ahead and scouted out the best route and led us up. My daughter said she “felt accomplished” when she got inside the caves, and I agreed! The kids loved walking through and exploring the caves, what a view! The swirl patterns in the sandstone are gorgeous and there’s even a small tunnel that you can walk through, making for a fun photo op.

Kanab Sand Arch

If you’re planning on going to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, this is an easy stop to add to your plans for the day. When you are coming from Kanab, you want to turn west onto Hancock Road and about .8 miles down the road you will want to stop at the wooden “64 marker”. You will know you are at the right place, because you can see a hoodoo from the road. As long as you have a 4x4 vehicle, you can drive on this sandy road, but if not, don’t worry. This easy walk is approximately a quarter mile in both directions. Once you get to the hoodoo (on your right), keep following the path for maybe another minute and there you will find the arch. The arch is big enough to walk under and you will probably be the only ones there! Enjoy!

Kanab is also a great place to stay and use as a base to visit other nearby locations such as Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante and much more!
